The 19th century is well noted for the advancement of 'proper' indoor games, otherwise known as Parlour Games. Children and adults, alike, enjoyed playing such games as Pick-Up-Sticks, Dominoes, Charades, Put & Take, Pin the Tale on the Donkey and many others.

Parlour Games taught children to play fairly and to take their turn. The games also encouraged children to play in groups and to 'behave propery.' Many of today's most popular games date back to those days.
